The Benjamin Russell Wildcats will play in Class 6A region 3 during the 2016 season. The Wildcats enter the season with expectations of not only a region title but reaching the state championship game. They are considered one the favorites in region 3 and should be a team in the thick of the hunt to represent the South in the Class 6A Super Seven come December. The Wildcats open the 2016 season on the road against non-region opponent Central Clay County on Friday, August 26 at Volunteer Stadium. Last year the Central Clay County Volunteers finished with an overall record of 6-5 and in second place in Class 5A region 3. The Volunteers lost in the first round of the Class 5A playoffs to Vigor by a score of 26-14. Benjamin Russell and Central Clay County have met a total of 10 times on the football field. The Wildcats have a 5-5-0 record against the Volunteers. They last met in 2023 with Central Clay County winning by a score of 30-13. Benjamin Russell returns 6A All-State Senior running back Necolby Maxwell.
